    447 No. 447 watch
So, I saw this movie a few hours ago, and here are my thoughts.

This movie is visually stunning. It is probably the most beautifully rendered film I have ever seen. And not just in realism. The creative and exotic settings were wondrous to see.

On the downside, there are a handful of incredibly bad lines that take away from the film, and the story is something you've seen before. Its also almost 3 hours long, and you really feel it.

On the whole a good movie, definitely worth seeing once. Probably not much more than that though.

That is pretty disappointing to hear, although, I don't think all that surprising. I have noticed over the years as CGI gets better and better that a lot of movies seem to rely on the fact that their CGI will carry them, and I think for a good part of the population it does. I, on the other hand, would rather see a really well put together movie drawn by a 3 year old in crayon than a 3 hour tech demo with stories "I've seen before" or a movie that actually feels really long.

I think I may have made some of my points poorly. This movie is so creatively set and amazingly animated it could have been an hour long with no story, speaking, and no characters and it would still be worth seeing.

As to the length, there wasn't really a scene that felt removable. It just took that long to tell they story they were going for. There is one place were in my opinion they could have ended the movie after an hour and thirty minutes and it would have been a spectacular film, but it wouldn't have been a Hollywood ending at all.

I would explain more, but I don't like spoilers. Just know that the last line of my original post is probably the most important.

see it in 3d if you can. holograms, floating shit, it's all in 3d and its fucking sweet.

    My major gripes:
    1) Unobtainium.. really? reminds me of the Core.. which makes me want to punch myself in the dick.
    2) It's long.
    3) The plot is formulaic

It was really good, for the same reasons goldman has, and I'm glad I saw it in theatres. If you aren't one of those dicks who refuses to see movies in theatres, then go. If you are one of those dicks, bring a date.

I rationalized Unobtainium on the idea that it was named by a corporation, as many things in the future probably will be. That or the fact that scientists have bad senses of humor.

Please mount my hot blue alien

"Let's just say it outright: This is a movie about alien porn. It's about the great, timeless, hypererotic white man fantasy of the Other. Inhabiting it, having sex with it, becoming it, moving inside it, running and leaping and fighting and taking spectacular risks just before falling into a bed of florid vines with your significant -- and incredibly hot -- alien companion to fondle her tail as the planet smiles in happy bioluminescent munificence all around you."

    Good for a giggle.

I liked this movie, but in a way it didn't turn out so well for me.

I have seriously bad astigmatism, so I knew right off the bat that I couldn't watch it in 3D. Matthew and I opted for digital projection instead.

In spite of my efforts to have a safe, healthy movie, there was just SO MUCH going on ALL THE TIME on EVERY INCH OF THE SCREEN with all the sweepy motion and colours and lights, and to make a long story short, I left to vomit after about 2 hours. I came back, though, and it was good.

My opinion: it was a hashed story, but it was told well. It was also a haven for furries everywhere to cream their pants.

Correct, only replace "alien" with "furry".
