I don't know how I really feel about this. An airport in San Fransisco allows you to pay a fee to try and offset the cost of your carbon emissions. I feel like I already paid the airline an insane amount of money for my ticket so they should be held responsible for proper emission control. Not to mention if you read into this it appears that you are basically paying to allow someone to let redwood trees grow so they will absorb carbon, seems a little untruthful to me.

I people want to waste money on it, let them go right ahead. It is kind of dubious as to how you actually offset your carbon emissions. I never plan to use one myself.

So, every so often I go about reading the news. I know its probably a mistake, but I do it anyway. There are a few things that just angry up my blood almost every time I do.

Have you ever noticed than when doing a story related to children, they have at least one quote from a parent? Now, that in and of itself doesn't bother me. What does is when they use the parent as an expert. Today there was this wonderful story in which 3 of the 4 people interviewed were parents discussing child psychology and development. Because, you know, there aren't people who spend their entire lives studying that crap. The best part was one of them was even quoted saying "The experts say" this, but I think its bullshit. Having a kid does not make you an authority on children.

They need to stop talking about that crazy Alaskan.

One last thing, since this is long. It bothers me that any time I actually know something about a subject, the news story runs completely counter to it. Now I admit, I am not an expert in anything, but when they talk endlessly about provably incorrect shit, it just blows my mind. I thought news was supposed to involve resource gathering, not creative story telling.

I've never seen a report refer to parents as experts, usually only as "an opinion". If they are actually using them as experts that would kind of piss me off too because while you may understand your child I dont think you understand child psychology as a whole. I think this may come from something else that pisses me off. There are a lot of parents out there who think that they are better than you and have much more knowledge than you because they have kids. Like the people in classes who constantly bring up that they are a single mother trying to raise their kids, go to school, and have a job. Wow, your life kinda sucks and I have to commend you for trying but everything isn't a springboard to talk about your kids and you self proclaimed knowledge because thereof.

When it comes to them saying something wrong. I am not really sure if anything is really ever actually wrong anymore in the eyes of the news. For every study saying one thing is true there is another study contradicting it saying that it is false. I think most news sources don't say both sides or recognize that there is another side but rather take a single study and run with it.

thank you NPR, proof that parents pretty much don't know what the fuck.

I cant even begin to believe that this was ever an official page. No professional university would accept this. I bet it was some class project that was super shitty that this guy is looking at.

I can't remember where I found the article but apparently Toyota is making a device that allows you to control a wheel chair using your brainwaves so that people who can't use their arms can still get around, I will try and look for it after work today.

"Swine flu has sickened at least 141 people in the U.S. and 331 people worldwide"

"Maybe you should give garden-variety flu a little more respect. In a typical U.S. flu season, an average of 36,000 people die of flu or flu complications, and about 200,000 people are hospitalized."

Apparently, CS jobs are the only ones in the recession not taking a big hit. Also, the number of IT jobs are projected to grow 100% in the near future.

I agree that it's pretty badass. IT isn't exactly what I want to do with my CS degree, but it's good to know that I have a cushy, mind-numbing field that I can fall back on.

If Obama does half of what he promised in his speech, he will be a great President in my book. Of course, thats probably true of the other 43 guys.

So they redid the oath of office due to the fuckup during the inauguration. I admit when I watched it I couldn't understand why Obama paused for so long after the Chief Justice spoke. Apparently its because the judge switched the words around.

Did anyone catch his speech the other day, I missed it like an idiot. The question is, did I miss anything important?
