I ran out of bread. I have peanut butter, rice, ground beef, tabasco sauce, flour, oil, and cheese. ... I was going to ask for suggestions that would help me not go shopping, but I just realized I can make homemade tacos. This could be awesome.

pic unrelated.

I will have to give this a read. I don't really stumble around a kitchen but there are times that I would like to cook something just nice and simple without having to set up a whole kitchen worth of stuff just to eat dinner.

I heard rumor of a delicious dish: cinnamon roll pancakes. I shall make some this weekend.

Do you have any other delicious ideas?

It went okay. The pancake recipe associated with it isn't the greatest. The batter was a little runnier than I'd have liked. The cinnamon swirl didn't want to stay on the pancake, it kind of ran everywhere and quickly burned in the pan. But they taste good. I've got two left in the fridge with swirls, and a few without. Also, like it says, you want a really wide spatula to flip 'em. Otherwise, you don't support the whole thing and it'll flop all over the place. The first one sent bits of molten butter and sugar all over the stove and my hand. It was not cool.

I couldn't find my cable to download the pictures. I'll try to do that this evening.

Well, as long as it tastes good I don't care too much about the aesthetics, I mean it's a god damned pancake. Sounds like I will definitely have to try this out sometime. Do you think using just grocery store pancake batter would do the well enough or should I probably go with scratch on this one?

Well, I wouldn't suggest using the provided recipe. Batter from a mix should be fine. Or at least do no worse than the recipe provided. A thicker batter is better.

Make sure to get the cinnamon sauce thick. I put mine in the freezer for a couple of minutes and made a batch of plain pancakes while I waited. Also, when you snip a hole in the bag of sauce, make it pretty small. That may have been a cause of problems for me.

I constantly buy more bananas than I actually eat before they go brown, so instead of throwing them away, I turn them into other things.

The original method of consumption was in muffin form. You take a generic blueberry muffin recipe and replace the white sugar with brown sugar and the blueberries with the mashed bananas (usually 2 bananas per recipe).

My latest idea was banana bread. Recipe as follows:

1 1/4 cups white sugar
1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (very ripe/brown)(about 3 bananas)
1/2 cup buttermilk (random note: smells like liquid cake)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

One step more: banana cinnamon roll pancakes.

I make banana pie:

Just don't overcook it and it's pretty good.

Goldman actually found a good quick brownie recipe:

4 tbsp flour
4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tbsp water

Add all the ingredients in a bowl or mug, stir them up, and stick it in the microwave for a minute. If it's not solid enough, you can stick it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds or so, but don't overdo it.

Pour chocolate sauce over the top to make it like a Warm Delights brownie, or eat it plain.

I tend to cut the recipe in half and use a smaller bowl because unlike Goldman, I can't eat that much in one sitting.

If you want to see what happens when you eat more than 3, I'd be happy to help. I've had at least 6 in 15 minutes.

I can vouch for that recipe. My first year in Rolla I had at least one a week. You really don't want to undermix or overcook it. Like, really really don't want to.

Also, picture related.

The recipe is simplistic, something I've done similar to before, that doesn't mean it isn't good and isn't worth trying. All the chatter and showmanship really didn't do anything for me but I am also not into the who fantasy scene either.

1st. So, what all do you do to make Ramen less of a cheap meal?
8 posts and 2 images omitted. Click Reply to view.
>> No. 339
Well, I know there's the Creamy Chicken flavor of Ramen, but since I moved from NY to WV I can't find it anymore. Instead, what I do is add a big ol chunk of cream cheese, this is far superior to the Creamy Chicken packet anyway. I also use a little bit of hot sauce and Banana Pepper juice (I keep the juice in the jar after the banana peppers are ated) and of course you can add chicken and veggies etc etc. The key point here is that cream cheese + ramen = awesome creamy sauce.

Also, for the shrimp flavor ramen I tend to use no water in my noodles (some eat ramen like soup but I never liked much water in my noodles). Instead I put a big hunk of margarine (or butter) and put my seasoning on it before I drop the noodles in to melt it, creating: Shrimp Scampi Ramen! For a cheap way to uncheapen the shrimp Ramen even more (just go with it) get a can of those tiny shrimp to add to it (I also use these for shrimp/fettucine alfredo). YUM-O!

I wanted to add another thing that I like to do which kind of contradicts my previous post about not liking soupy ramen - However this is moreso a Ramen-y soup =).

Anyway, if you're familiar with/good at making egg-drop soup then it's a fairly cheap way to mix things up. I just make the egg-drop as per my usual way and then add the already cooked noodles to it.
>> No. 341
hard boild eggs, whatever meats (yes, plural) sound good, veg (depending on what's available).

sometimes I add lime juice and or hot sauce.

sometimes mint (just like the lime juice, the noodles suck up this flavor)
lemon juice.

mix as desired. decorate asthetically. always use chopsticks.
