So, with the first half of the year almost done, I got to wondering "How much of my $25 have I used?" Then I thought, "How much have other people used?"

So, how much do you guys have remaining? Anyone even close? Even half way?

Bonus points for screen caps of your remaining funds.

See, I think this is the big problem with the quota system, and this isn't meant as a giant protest to get rid of it so don't take it that way. When ever you have something that you give to someone and it is of limited amount, even if it was free and they will get more, some people people will always try to use it all. People don't want to feel like they are wasting anything, which is funny because the quota is in place to prevent people from wasting paper.

    >>711

And what about the possibility of them lowering the quota in the future, if the average usage is below a certain point?
    >> No. 738
I work at the IT walk-in Center. There are some people who use the whole thing, mainly seniors, and grad students printing their thesis. From what I can tell, students either use almost none of the printing, or they use about $50 instead of the free $35 you could get this semester. (Yes that's $35, not $25, you could have gotten a free $10 from IT if you asked)

    >>716
Let them print their $25 if they so want to. Honestly from what I can see they are probably going to lower the limit considering how many kids almost never print on campus, myself being one of them, and then all the students that do use the printing are going to be pissed off because they will have to pay out of pocket for most of it.

This semester I am taking 3 classes that I probably should have done sophomore or junior year. It may be just my imagination, but the number of mind-blowingly stupid questions asked in my classes seems directly proportional to the number of underclassmen. Has anyone else ever noticed this? Has it always been this way? Were we really that bad back in the day?
    >> No. 697
I don't know if we in particular were ever that bad, and here is why. I HAVE always noticed that the more underclassmen the more stupid questions I hear, BUT I have been thinking this since I was a freshman. I think what happens is that these are the kids who have not been weeded out yet and they just exist among the freshman who are serious and understand the major they want to go into. As you move up in classes you will only find more and more people who are serious about taking a class and not any longer run into these people who are taking classes for the sake of taking classes.

Guys, is this board only for school classes, or does it allow for all kinds of classes? I decided to go ahead and ask since this board has been dead for the past three weeks.

So, next semester I have 9 completely free elective hours I need to take. So I am in search of worthwhile classes, and if that fails, fun easy ones. Generally I like CS ones, but whatever is cool. Also, if you guys have some idea's what your taking, it might be cool to have class with people. So anyway, ITT post cool classes being offered next semester.

I took Biology in film, its not bad. Be prepared to watch some REALLY bad movies. You watch a movie, she lectures on how the movie is relevant to biology. You take what is pretty much a participation quiz at the end and go home. You right one paper about 3 movies you saw and you take 2 low level biology tests. I got an A, I wouldnt say its an EASY A, but you really only have to work a little at it.

I guess the question is how fun is it? I am between that class and IST 286 (or whatever). The IST class explicitly tells you never to show up again and just turn in homework through blackboard. The homework is mind numbingly easy, but not really fun.

TL;DR Is Biology in Film fun enough to justify its difficulty?

So i hear IT raised their prices... and now we have a restriction on how much we can print...

    ok... that's lame.

As we have discussed in length here the school is trying to go green. The printing quota is one way they are going about it, and trying to make people submit stuff online is another way the school is trying to make things more green.

With that said, does anyone else have teachers who still seemed obsessed with handing in a printed out copy? I have a couple classes where I turn my project in online and I am also still expected to print out like 15 pages of code anyway.
    >> No. 667
My CI class, you must submit a digital copy of everything AND print all code and your report. I don't get it.
    >> No. 668
Printed copies are easier to handle and grade. Why would a teacher want digital copies? Most of them will just print it out anyway.

I only have had one teacher that requires digital submissions and doesn't print them out to hand back. Insall did this, and thats just because he used his tablet to write on and grade things.
